Buying or selling an EV?

The safety certificate, sorted in about 45 minutes.

In Queensland, a safety certificate (often called a roadworthy) is generally needed before a registered vehicle is sold or its registration is transferred. Whether you are handing your EV over or picking one up, we inspect it with the same EV know-how we bring to every check, and we come to you on Brisbane Northside.

When you need one

Does this apply to you?

If you are selling

A safety certificate comes first, before the car is offered for sale:

  • You are selling a registered vehicle in Queensland
  • You are transferring the registration to a new owner
  • You are re-registering a vehicle that has been unregistered
  • You are moving a vehicle's registration to Queensland from another state or territory

If you are buying

The certificate is the seller's job to arrange, but protect yourself anyway:

  • Ask the seller for a valid safety certificate before you commit
  • Check the certificate is still within its validity window
  • Book an independent pre purchase inspection for the full story on the battery

Requirements, exemptions and how long a certificate stays valid are set by the Queensland Government. Check the official Queensland Government guidance for your situation. Approved inspection station details: add approval details

What we check

The safety essentials, done properly.

The inspection covers the safety-critical components Queensland requires. On an EV there is no engine to assess, so the attention goes to the systems that actually keep you safe on the road.

Brakes and steering

The parts that stop and point the car matter most, so they get a close look.

  • Brake function and condition
  • Steering response and feel
  • Suspension components

Lights and electrical

  • Headlights, brake lights and indicators
  • Warning lamps on the dash
  • Visible wiring and connections

Tyres and wheels

  • Tyre condition and tread depth
  • Wheels and bearings
  • Spare wheel where fitted

Windscreen and visibility

  • Windscreen chips and cracks
  • Wipers and washers
  • Mirrors

Body, structure and safety equipment

  • Body and chassis condition
  • Seats and seatbelts
  • Vehicle identification checks

EV specifics, no surprises

We know EVs. No engine to check, so the attention goes where it counts.

  • High voltage system safety checks
  • Charging port and cabling condition
  • Underbody and battery enclosure

Pass or fail

What happens on the day.

If it passes

Your safety certificate is issued. You are ready to sell or transfer, with the paperwork done.

If something needs attention

You get a clear list of exactly what failed and why. No guesswork, and no pressure: we can quote the repairs for you, or you're free to take the list anywhere you like.

We are fully independent: we don't sell cars, and our findings follow Queensland's safety standards alone. There is no reason for us to fail a car that should not fail.

Transport paperwork help

The rest of the paperwork, made easy.

Dealing with the Department of Transport can be a bit of a headache. Here is some handy info to make it easier, free of charge.

Transfer the registration

Selling or buying? The registration needs to be transferred to the new owner. The Queensland Government handles this online.
