Twenty minutes behind the wheel tells you how a car feels today. It tells you nothing about the one component that decides whether a used EV is a bargain or a mistake: the battery.
There's no dipstick for battery health. A degraded pack shows no warning light until it's expensive, and private sellers rarely know (or say) how theirs is tracking. Meanwhile the usual suspects still apply: crash repairs, uneven tyre wear, corroded brakes, tired suspension.
An inspection costs a few hundred dollars. Getting a battery replacement wrong costs five figures.
The battery is the car
Most of a used EV's value sits in its battery. If the pack is badly degraded, no amount of shine on the paint fixes it, and the seller won't volunteer it.
